Who Is This Car For

The Nexon EV offers a compelling package: electric drive, SUV body style, decent interior space, and brand support from Tata. Its strengths lie in running cost (EV), technology features in higher trims, and brand trust. On the flip side, like many EVs in India, real-world range, charging infrastructure, and waiting periods are considerations. For example, a review notes:

“The city range … is sufficient for most city driving requirements without inducing range anxiety. … On the highway, unless you’re absolutely sure of your journey, range anxiety remains.”
So while city use is very practical, for long highway runs the user needs to plan.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Strong value: Among EVs in its price-range offers a good mix of features.

  • Good city usability: Smooth, quiet electric drive, strong low-end torque.

  • Affordable running cost: EV charging and lower maintenance compared to ICE cars.

  • Decent feature list in higher trims: (Infotainment, connectivity, safe structure)

Cons

  • Range still limited for long, high-speed or remote drives: highway range is modest.

  • Charging infrastructure dependency: Especially outside major cities, fast-charging access may still be limited. (Implied in reviews)

  • Some build/fit-finish or minor ergonomics criticisms: e.g., some review mentions the instrument cluster or controls could be improved.

  • Waiting periods and variant availability can be lagging given demand.

Cruising Down The History

  • The Nexon EV was revealed in December 2019.

  • Based on the Nexon platform, using Tata’s Ziptron technology.

  • Over time, battery options and trims have been updated (e.g., medium-range and long-range battery packs) and feature upgrades (infotainment, connectivity).

  • It has been one of India’s best-selling EVs in its segment.

Buy Or Bye Bye!

If you’re considering the Nexon EV:

  • It’s a very strong choice for a city-centric electric SUV with good features and brand support.
  • Check availability/wait-time and variant you’re getting (battery size, features can differ significantly).
  • Evaluate charging access (home charger, public DC fast chargers) especially if you plan frequent long drives.
  • Real-world range will be lower than claimed ARAI number, especially with heavy use of AC, highway speeds, inclines, etc. E.g., one article notes test range for 45 kWh variant closer to ~350 km in ideal conditions.
  • Be clear about your usage pattern: if mostly urban, it fits well; if many long highway trips, check DC charger network & plan accordingly.
